Job Overview

The Chief Data Governance Officer will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of ENGIE Mauritius’s data governance program. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for establishing policies, standards, and procedures that ensure data quality, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance across all business units. This senior leadership position requires a strategic mindset, deep expertise in data management, and the ability to influence cross‑functional teams to adopt best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data governance framework aligned with international standards such as DAMA‑DMBoK and ISO 38500.
  • Define data policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability across all energy assets.
  • Lead a cross‑functional data governance council, facilitating collaboration between IT, legal, finance, operations, and sustainability teams.
  • Implement data quality metrics, monitoring tools, and reporting dashboards to track compliance and performance.
  • Oversee data stewardship programs, assigning owners and ensuring accountability for critical data domains.
  • Manage data risk assessments, privacy impact analyses, and regulatory compliance initiatives, including GDPR and local data protection laws.
  • Drive the adoption of data cataloging and metadata management solutions to improve data discoverability.
  • Provide strategic guidance on data architecture, data lineage, and data lifecycle management to support digital transformation projects.
  • Mentor and develop a high‑performing data governance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align data governance initiatives with business objectives and sustainability goals.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in data governance, data management, or related fields within large, complex organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection regulations, energy sector data requirements, and best‑practice frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica.
  • Strategic thinking combined with hands‑on execution experience.
  • Fluency in English; French is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Data Management, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe) are highly desirable.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in data governance, data quality, or data risk management, preferably within the energy or utilities sector. Demonstrated success in building and scaling data governance programs in multinational environments is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. A performance‑based bonus structure and comprehensive benefits package are also included.
