Job Overview
MEWA is seeking a dynamic Coastal Zone Management Analyst to lead initiatives in protecting and restoring Mauritius’ coastal ecosystems. This role combines scientific expertise with policy development to address challenges like erosion, pollution, and habitat degradation. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct ecological assessments of coastal zones to identify conservation priorities.
- Develop and implement management plans for sustainable coastal development.
- Collaborate with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies on marine protection projects.
- Monitor water quality and biodiversity indicators using GIS and remote sensing tools.
- Prepare technical reports and policy recommendations for stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in coastal zone management or marine environmental analysis.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data visualization tools.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and international sustainability frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and public outreach.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Geography, or related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred, with a focus on coastal management or environmental policy.
Experience
- 3-5 years of professional experience in environmental analysis or coastal resource management.
- Previous involvement in marine conservation projects is a strong advantage.
Salary
35,000 – 45,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
