Job Overview
MBIC seeks a passionate Agricultural Biotechnology Researcher to lead projects focused on developing high-yield, climate-resilient crops and bio-based pest control solutions. This role will contribute to Mauritius’ goal of achieving self-sufficiency in food production while minimizing environmental impact. The position offers opportunities to work with state-of-the-art biotech labs and field trials across the island.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute research projects on crop genetic modification and soil health optimization
- Develop biotechnology-based solutions for pest and disease resistance in tropical crops
- Collaborate with farmers and agricultural stakeholders to implement sustainable practices
- Analyze experimental data using statistical software and biotech tools
- Prepare scientific reports and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
- Stay updated on global advancements in agricultural biotechnology
Required Skills
- Expertise in molecular biology techniques (PCR, CRISPR, etc.)
- Experience with crop biotechnology and field trials
- Proficiency in data analysis software (R, Python, or MATLAB)
- Strong project management and cross-departmental collaboration skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication for scientific documentation
Education
Master’s or PhD in Biotechnology, Agricultural Science, or related field with specialization in genetic engineering.
Experience
3-5 years in agricultural biotechnology research, preferably with tropical crops or sustainable farming projects.
Salary
350,000 – 450,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
