Job Overview

BHP Mauritius is seeking a dedicated Mining Safety Officer to oversee health and safety protocols across its mining sites in Bel Air. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with national and international safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a culture of safety among employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mining safety, environmental compliance, and incident prevention. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of mining operations.
• Develop and implement safety training programs for employees and contractors.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mining safety laws.
• Monitor environmental impact and enforce mitigation strategies.
• Prepare safety reports and recommend improvements to operational procedures.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in mining safety or occupational health and safety (OHS).
• Strong knowledge of mining regulations and environmental compliance standards.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to train and mentor teams.

• Fluency in English and basic knowledge of French or Creole.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification or certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, CMIOSH) is highly advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of 3–5 years in mining safety, environmental compliance, or occupational health. Experience in Mauritius or the Indian Ocean region is preferred.

Salary

45,000 – 55,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
