Job Overview

The Lead Data Governance Manager will spearhead HSBC Mauritius’s data governance framework, ensuring that data assets are managed, protected, and utilized in compliance with local and international regulations. This senior role reports to the Chief Risk Officer and works closely with IT, Legal, Compliance, and Business Units to embed data governance best practices across the organization.

  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure data privacy, encryption, and access controls meet regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular data quality assessments, root‑cause analysis, and remediation plans to improve data integrity.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in data governance, data quality, and regulatory compliance within the banking sector.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, Mauritian Data Protection Act) and financial regulations (Basel III, AML/CFT).
  • Proficiency with data governance tools (Collibra, Informatica, Alation) and data modeling techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing senior executives.
  • Project management experience with Agile or Waterfall methodologies.
  • Ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams.

Education

A Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe), or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data governance, risk management, or compliance within a large financial institution. Proven track record of designing and executing governance frameworks at an enterprise level is essential.

Salary
