Job Overview

The Senior Mine Safety Engineer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety protocols for mining activities conducted under DHL’s logistics support contracts. Reporting to the Regional Safety Director, you will collaborate with mine operators, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to ensure that all operations meet or exceed Mauritian safety legislation and international best practices. This position plays a pivotal role in risk assessment, incident investigation, and the promotion of a safety‑first culture across all project sites. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and enforce comprehensive mine safety policies and procedures aligned with local regulations and ISO 45001 standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard analyses, and risk assessments to identify potential safety issues.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate safety training programs for on‑site personnel, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and environmental teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
• Prepare detailed safety reports, metrics, and dashboards for senior management and regulatory agencies.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities and other governmental safety authorities.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data‑driven methodologies and emerging safety technologies.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Mauritian mining safety legislation and international standards (e.g., MSHA, OHSAS 18001).
• Proven expertise in risk assessment tools such as HAZOP, FMEA, and Bow‑Tie analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑centric mindset.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing at all organizational levels.
• Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional safety teams.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH International General Certificate are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in mine safety engineering, with at least five (5) years in a senior or lead role overseeing large‑scale mining operations. Experience within a logistics or supply chain context is an advantage.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from 1,200,000 to 1,800,000 SSP, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses and benefits are part of the total compensation package.
