Job Overview

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide strategic legal advice to Deloitte’s corporate clients and internal business units, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations. This role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on corporate governance, managing litigation matters, and supporting mergers and acquisitions. Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including supply contracts, service agreements, and joint venture documents.
  • Provide legal counsel on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies for both clients and internal operations.
  • Lead due diligence processes for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, identifying legal risks and recommending mitigation measures.
  • Manage and oversee litigation and dispute resolution matters, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
  • Advise senior management on emerging legal trends, data protection, anti‑corruption, and ESG compliance.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on legal best practices for internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with tax, finance, and audit teams to ensure integrated advisory services.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills across multiple contract types.
  • Proficiency in Mauritian law, including commercial, corporate, and labor legislation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply international regulations such as GDPR and anti‑money laundering standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with senior executives and external partners.
  • Leadership qualities to mentor junior legal staff and lead cross‑functional projects.

Education

A qualified law degree (LL.B.) from a recognized university is required. A Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) or a related field, particularly with a focus on corporate or international law, is highly desirable. Membership in the Mauritius Bar Association or equivalent professional legal body is preferred.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in corporate law, preferably within a professional services firm or a multinational corporation. Demonstrated experience in handling complex transactions, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
