Job Overview

The Senior Water Resources Engineer will lead the planning, design, and implementation of water resources projects across Mauritius, focusing on integrated water management, flood risk mitigation, and sustainable supply solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of comprehensive water resources plans, including hydrological modeling, water balance analysis, and demand forecasting for urban and industrial zones.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of flood mitigation measures, stormwater management systems, and climate adaptation strategies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, budgetary constraints, and project timelines.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost‑benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new water supply and reuse projects.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, regulatory submissions, and environmental impact assessments in compliance with Mauritian water legislation.
  • Engage with local authorities, NGOs, and community stakeholders to promote sustainable water practices and secure project approvals.
  • Monitor project performance, implement corrective actions, and report progress to senior management and clients.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on best practices in water resources engineering.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software (e.g., HEC‑RAS, SWMM, MIKE SHE).
  • Strong understanding of water law, regulatory frameworks, and environmental standards in Mauritius.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing reports, presentations, and client briefings.
  • Leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams and a collaborative mindset.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the field.

Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of eight years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, with a proven track record of delivering large‑scale water infrastructure projects. Experience working within the Mauritian regulatory environment or similar island contexts will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
