Job Overview

The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of Microsoft’s data center facilities in Mauritius, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of critical infrastructure. Reporting to the Regional Infrastructure Director, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, coordinating activities that span power management, cooling systems, network connectivity, and hardware maintenance. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all operational aspects of the data center, including power, cooling, network, and hardware lifecycle.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and local regulations.
  • Monitor performance metrics, conduct capacity planning, and implement optimization strategies to maintain 99.99% uptime.
  • Coordinate incident response, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for any service disruptions.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce physical and logical security controls, ensuring data protection and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate service level agreements (SLAs), and oversee third‑party maintenance contracts.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Prepare and present operational reports to senior leadership, highlighting key performance indicators and improvement initiatives.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives by optimizing energy consumption and supporting green‑energy projects.
  • Ensure seamless integration of new hardware and software deployments with minimal impact on service availability.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, HVAC, networking, and server hardware.
  • Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., System Center Operations Manager, Azure Monitor) and automation platforms.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven approach to decision making.
  • Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement at all organizational levels.
  • Project management expertise, preferably with PMP or ITIL certification.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure, and their integration with on‑premises infrastructure.
  • Commitment to safety, security, and regulatory compliance.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Cisco CCNP, or similar are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in data center operations, with at least three years in a managerial or lead role. Experience in large‑scale cloud environments and familiarity with Microsoft’s technology stack will be considered a strong advantage.

Salary
