Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead IBM Mauritius’ privacy program, ensuring compliance with local and international data protection regulations such as the GDPR, CCPA, and Mauritius Data Protection Act. This role involves developing policies, conducting impact assessments, and advising business units on privacy‑by‑design principles. The officer will act as the primary liaison with regulators, manage data breach responses, and promote a culture of privacy awareness throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures aligned with global standards.
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, products, and services.
  • Serve as the point of contact for data subjects, handling access, correction, and deletion requests.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise senior leadership on necessary compliance actions.
  • Lead incident response activities for data breaches, including investigation, reporting, and remediation.
  • Deliver privacy training and awareness programs to employees across all levels.
  • Collaborate with IT, legal, and security teams to embed privacy controls into system architectures.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to the Data Protection Authority of Mauritius.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and Mauritius Data Protection Act.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with regulators, senior management, and staff.
  • Experience with privacy‑by‑design frameworks and data mapping tools.
  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
  • Proficiency in English and French; knowledge of Creole is a plus.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience managing data privacy programs in a multinational technology environment, with a proven track record of successful regulatory compliance and incident management.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based bonuses.
