Job Overview
The Data Privacy Officer will lead Deloitte Mauritius’ efforts to design, implement, and monitor comprehensive data protection frameworks for both internal operations and client engagements. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with the Mauritius Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other international privacy standards. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, providing strategic guidance, conducting privacy impact assessments, and delivering training programs that embed a culture of privacy across the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the organization’s data privacy policies, procedures, and controls.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, services, and client engagements.
- Monitor and interpret changes in local and international privacy legislation, ensuring timely updates to compliance programs.
- Provide expert advice to senior management and business units on privacy risks, mitigation strategies, and best practices.
- Lead incident response activities related to data breaches, including investigation, reporting, and remediation.
- Design and deliver privacy awareness training and workshops for employees at all levels.
- Collaborate with IT, security, legal, and audit teams to embed privacy by design into technology solutions.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory authorities, ensuring accurate and timely compliance.
- Support client projects by offering privacy consultancy services, including contract reviews and cross‑border data transfer assessments.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of the Mauritius Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant privacy frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex legal concepts into clear business guidance.
- Proven experience conducting PIAs/DPIAs and managing data breach investigations.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders.
- Project management expertise with a track record of delivering privacy initiatives on time and within budget.
- Familiarity with information security standards such as ISO 27001 and NIST is advantageous.
Education
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates holding a Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or Certified Information Privacy Professional are highly preferred.
Experience
Applicants must have at least five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or legal advisory roles, preferably within a professional services environment or a multinational corporation operating in Mauritius.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated expertise. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits suite.
