Job Overview
The Food Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and monitoring food safety programs, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations, and fostering a culture of safety throughout the manufacturing process. This role collaborates closely with production, quality assurance, and regulatory teams to identify risks, conduct audits, and develop corrective actions. The specialist will also serve as a key liaison with external auditors and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain food safety management systems (FSMS) in accordance with HACCP, ISO 22000, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits, risk assessments, and gap analyses to identify potential food safety hazards.
- Lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address non‑conformities and ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to monitor critical control points (CCPs) and validate process controls.
- Prepare and submit documentation for external audits, regulatory inspections, and certification bodies.
- Provide training and mentorship to staff on food safety best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging food safety trends, legislation, and industry standards to advise senior management.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, ISO 22000, and Mauritian food safety regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in audit techniques and documentation management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and risk assessment tools.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Nutrition, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP) or HACCP certification are highly desirable.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in food safety, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance within a manufacturing environment. Experience in multinational food companies is an advantage.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 350,000 to SSP 500,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and comprehensive benefits.
