Job Overview

The Senior Freight Forwarding Operations Manager will lead the Vacoas operations team, overseeing the planning, execution, and optimization of international and domestic freight movements. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, the role is responsible for ensuring compliance with customs regulations, maintaining service level agreements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The manager will collaborate closely with sales, finance, and IT departments to deliver integrated logistics solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise daily freight forwarding activities, including air, sea, and road shipments, ensuring on‑time delivery and adherence to client specifications.
  • Develop and implement operational SOPs, risk management protocols, and compliance frameworks aligned with Mauritian customs regulations and international trade standards.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of coordinators, customs agents, and warehouse staff, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous learning.
  • Analyze performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and drive process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, or digital workflow tools.
  • Collaborate with sales and account management to design customized logistics solutions, pricing models, and service level agreements.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and local authorities to negotiate rates, secure capacity, and resolve operational issues.
  • Oversee budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis for the Vacoas hub, delivering quarterly financial reports to senior leadership.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, customs clearance, and regulatory compliance for all shipments, minimizing delays and penalties.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
  • In‑depth knowledge of international freight forwarding, customs procedures, and multimodal transport.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in logistics management software (e.g., CargoWise, SAP TM).
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with clients, carriers, and government agencies.
  • Ability to drive change, implement process improvements, and adopt new technologies.
  • Fluency in English and French; knowledge of Creole is an advantage.

Education

The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as FIATA, IATA, or a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt are highly desirable.

Experience

A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in freight forwarding, logistics operations, or supply chain management is required. Candidates should have at least three years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably within a multinational logistics organization.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
