Job Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS programs that align with local regulations and global best practices. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and manuals tailored to local legislation and international standards.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and implement preventive measures to reduce future occurrences.
• Provide training and awareness programs on occupational health, safety protocols, and environmental stewardship for all staff levels.
• Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety incidents, environmental emissions, and compliance status.
• Collaborate with senior management to integrate EHS considerations into project planning and operational decision‑making.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Mauritian regulations, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other relevant standards.
• Prepare and submit regulatory filings, permits, and compliance documentation to government agencies.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a proactive approach to risk management.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex EHS concepts clearly.
• Proficiency in EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or ISO Lead Auditor are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands‑on experience in environmental health and safety roles within manufacturing, construction, or similar industrial settings. Demonstrated experience in conducting audits, managing compliance programs, and delivering training sessions is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
