Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain stochastic and deterministic actuarial models for life and health insurance products.
- Perform pricing analysis, profitability assessments, and scenario testing to support new product launches.
- Prepare statutory and regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with the Financial Services Commission (FSC) guidelines.
- Collaborate with underwriting and finance teams to refine assumptions, improve data quality, and optimize risk selection.
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual reserving calculations, including sensitivity analyses.
- Mentor junior actuarial staff, providing guidance on technical methods and professional development.
- Present analytical findings to senior management and external auditors in clear, concise formats.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes affecting the insurance market in Mauritius.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in actuarial software such as Prophet, MoSes, or GGY AXIS.
- Strong command of statistical programming languages (R, Python, SAS).
- Excellent quantitative and analytical abilities with a focus on detail.
- Effective communication skills for translating complex models into business insights.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Project management experience, including timeline and stakeholder coordination.
- Knowledge of Mauritian insurance regulations and international accounting standards (IFRS 17).
Education
A recognized actuarial qualification (e.g., IFoA, CAS) is essential, complemented by a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. Continuous professional development through actuarial exams and industry certifications is highly valued.
Experience
Applicants should possess 5‑7 years of relevant experience in actuarial modeling, preferably within life or health insurance. Experience in a multinational insurance environment and exposure to both product development and reserving functions will be considered a strong advantage.
