Job Overview
The Senior Precision Agriculture Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of cutting‑edge precision farming solutions for commercial farms and agribusiness partners throughout Mauritius. Reporting to the Head of R&D, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate satellite imagery, IoT sensors, machine learning models, and autonomous equipment into cohesive farm management systems. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy precision agriculture hardware and software solutions, including GPS‑guided implements, variable rate technology, and real‑time field monitoring systems.
- Lead pilot projects with large‑scale farms to validate technology performance, collect data, and refine algorithms for yield prediction and input optimization.
- Collaborate with data scientists to create predictive analytics models that integrate weather forecasts, soil health metrics, and crop growth stages.
- Provide technical training and support to customers, dealers, and internal sales teams on the use of John Deere’s digital platforms.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of global agritech trends, regulatory requirements, and local farming practices to ensure solutions are compliant and culturally relevant.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, project proposals, and ROI analyses for senior management and external partners.
- Represent John Deere at agricultural exhibitions, workshops, and academic forums to promote brand visibility and thought leadership.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in precision farming technologies, GIS, remote sensing, and IoT integration.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or JavaScript for data analysis and algorithm development.
- Hands‑on experience with farm machinery calibration, sensor installation, and field data collection.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and capacity to translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for farmers.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in English and French; knowledge of Creole is an advantage.
- Project management experience, including budgeting, timeline adherence, and cross‑functional coordination.
Education
A Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications in GIS, remote sensing, or precision agriculture are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in agricultural technology, with at least five years in a senior engineering or project‑lead role. Demonstrated success in delivering large‑scale precision farming projects in a commercial environment is essential.
Salary
