Job Overview

The Port Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all day‑to‑day activities at the Goodlands container terminal, coordinating vessel berthing, cargo handling, yard management, and stakeholder communication. The role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of maritime regulations, safety standards, and port efficiency metrics. Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise terminal operations, including vessel scheduling, loading/unloading, and yard storage.
• Ensure compliance with Mauritian maritime regulations, International Safety Management (ISM) Code, and environmental standards.
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as turnaround time, berth utilization, and equipment productivity.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of supervisors, technicians, and administrative staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, customs authorities, freight forwarders, and inland transport providers to streamline cargo flow.
• Implement digital solutions such as terminal operating systems (TOS) and IoT sensors to enhance operational visibility.
• Prepare operational budgets, forecast resource needs, and manage cost control measures.
• Conduct regular safety drills, risk assessments, and emergency response planning.
• Report operational performance to senior management and recommend strategic enhancements.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of port operations, container handling equipment, and maritime logistics.
• Proficiency in terminal operating systems, ERP, and data analytics tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to analyze complex operational data and implement process improvements.
• Understanding of environmental sustainability practices in maritime settings.
• Fluent in English; French proficiency is an advantage.

Education

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as Certified Port Professional (CPP) or equivalent are desirable.

Experience

A minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in port or terminal operations, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity, is required. Experience with international shipping lines and familiarity with Mauritian customs procedures will be highly valued.

Salary
